At Corinda, we are fortunate to have a dedicated and passionate group of Youth Workers committed to supporting the wellbeing of our students. Whether they're providing one-on-one support, running group programs, or contributing to whole-school initiatives, Nyki, Kobie, and Madison each bring unique strengths and experiences to the role. Get to know more about them and the incredible work they're doing below:
Meet Nyki:
What is your role in supporting student wellbeing at Corinda SHS?
As a Youth Worker at Corinda SHS, my role is to provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for students to express themselves and seek help. I work closely with students to build resilience, develop coping strategies, and connect them with appropriate resources. I also collaborate with teachers, families, and external services to ensure a holistic approach to student wellbeing. Whether through one-on-one support, group programs, or school-wide initiatives, my goal is to empower students to thrive both personally and academically.
Why did you want to become a Youth Worker?
I was drawn to youth work because I'm passionate about making a positive difference in young people's lives. Adolescence is such a formative time, and having someone to listen, guide, and believe in you can be life changing. I wanted to be that person—someone who helps young people feel seen, heard, and supported. Youth work allows me to combine empathy, advocacy, and practical support in a way that truly matters.
What challenges do you see teenagers facing on a day-to-day basis?
Teenagers today face a wide range of challenges that can impact their wellbeing. These include academic pressure, social media influence, identity development, peer relationships, and mental health concerns such as anxiety and depression. Many also navigate family expectations, part-time work, and uncertainty about their future. The constant connectivity of the digital world can amplify stress and reduce opportunities for genuine rest and reflection.
Meet Kobie:
Hi! I'm Kobie Riseley, a youth worker passionate about supporting young people to grow, feel heard, and be themselves. I've spent the last 4 years after graduating from Corinda creating safe, fun, and inclusive spaces where young people can connect, build confidence, and thrive. I'm excited to work alongside and support the Year 9's and 12's this year with Natasha Rist.
Meet Madison:
Hi! I'm Madison Powell, I'm passionate about personal development and helping others grow both professionally and personally. I'm looking forward to helping all of the students here to realise their potential and achieve success. I'm really interested in fitness; I'm currently training for a 21km obstacle course race and my goal after that will be training for and completing a marathon. I'm a returning student, I attended CSHS in the 2000's and I'm running into a lot of familiar faces and children of school mates.
We're excited to have Nyki, Kobie, and Madison on board and look forward to the positive impact they'll have across our school community.
