As part of Queensland Women's Week, Minister for Education Grace Grace MP recognised a number of exceptional female teachers including Corinda's Science and Mathematics teacher Melanie Mace.
Melanie has served the Corinda community for almost 20 years. An inclusivity advocate, she approaches teaching with kindness, respect and understanding. Drawing on her own personal experience of raising a son with ASD, Melanie recognises the need and importance of providing learning experiences that cater to the needs of individual students.
“When I see a student struggling, I offer multiple strategies to assist them in understanding the concept. When I see it in their eyes, that light bulb moment, it's so rewarding. That feel-good feeling has never diminished," Melanie explains. “I have students who say, 'I hated Maths, but now it's my favourite subject because of you.' What more do you want as a teacher?" she said.
