Four local primary schools brought their A-game to Corinda SHS to compete in a day-long battle of the brains at the inaugural Benarrawa Precinct Maths Teams Challenge.
Year 5 and 6 students from Corinda State School, Graceville State School, Oxley State School and Sherwood State School showcased their problem-solving prowess as they worked tirelessly in teams, racing against the clock to crack codes, unravel puzzles, and conquer challenging equations. It was a true test of wit and skill, and the young mathematicians rose to the occasion with flying colours!
But the real magic happened thanks to Corinda SHS's amazing Year 10 students who supervised throughout the day, offering guidance, encouragement, and a sprinkle of mathematical wisdom to the young participants.
The brainchild of Corinda SHS Maths teacher, Ms Qui, the Challenge event aims to build a partnership with feeder schools that fosters a culture of excellence whilst enabling like-minded students to compete against one another under the guidance of the school's Maths Excellence team.
According to Deputy Principal Andrew Noble, Corinda SHS is performing significantly above its ICSEA level. “We're ranked among the top schools in Brisbane for numeracy according to the National Performance Index in the 2023 NAPLAN results," he said. “We're proud of these results and we're in a position to loop that back into feeder schools so that the whole community benefits."
Congratulations to Sherwood who took out first and second place, and Oxley who finished third.
