Our school is committed to providing quality sporting competitions and opportunities for all. This comes from a deeply held belief that physical activity is essential for the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of our students. As such, there are many opportunities for students to become involved in sport here at Corinda.

Elite Pathway Tournaments

Throughout the year there are a number of Elite Pathways Tournaments that the school enters into, our main tournament being Eastern Taipan Trials. These tournaments give our students the opportunity to compete against the best teams in the region, state and country.

Elite Pathways Tournaments are currently available for the following sports:

  • AFL
  • Football
  • Futsal
  • Netball
  • Tennis
  • Touch Football
  • Volleyball

Please note that these trials are only for students who have a demonstrated ability to play at a high level and have evidence of skills/abilities. Throughout the year, the HPE Head of Department will post on Student Notices when trials are approaching and students will be required to email to express interest in signing up. They will also be asked to include some playing information (positions, experience, current teams etc) that can be passed on to the selectors.

Trials will be required for these teams and the best performing students are selected irrespective of age or grade. If selected in these squads, students usually compete outside of school time and there is usually a cost involved. Some of the trials cater for a wide range of age groups, which sometimes means we can enter teams from all age groups.

Interschool sport (Gala Days)

Our school participates in the West Brisbane District Interschool sport competition. The purpose of this competition is to provide quality sporting opportunities between schools in the district. This competition enables all students from Year 7 to Year 12, the opportunity to participate in a range of sports against five other schools in the district. The sports available for participation include:

  • AFL
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Football
  • Netball
  • OzTag
  • Softball
  • Tennis
  • Touch Football
  • Ultimate Disc
  • Volleyball

To enhance the quality of the competition the conveners of each sport source qualified referees and suitable first aid personnel. Some of the sports will be played at school venues whilst others will use community facilities including the Queensland Tennis Centre.

The competition is divided into two seasons where teams compete for the title of District Premiers. Premier teams will then progress onto the Metropolitan Finals series against other winning schools from across South East Queensland.

Elite Athlete Development Program

At Corinda State High School, we are dedicated to supporting high-performing athletes in their pursuit of excellence. We understand the unique demands and commitments that come with being involved in competitive sports. The Elite Athlete Development Program provides our individual athletes with the support and flexibility to pursue their sporting commitments and dreams in partnership with their education.

If your child is engaged in an elite level sport and would benefit from additional support, we encourage you to reach out to Ms Walker, our Director of Sports Development (swalk203@eq.edu.au). We are eager to hear about our students' athletic endeavours and explore potential avenues of assistance. We are committed to fostering a culture that nurtures and celebrates the achievements of our student-athletes.
