We offer a range of mathematics subjects, providing students with an in-depth study of critical skills and concepts.
Maths encourages teachers to help students become self-motivated, confident learners through inquiry and active participation in challenging and engaging experiences. We use the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics because it develops the numeracy capabilities that all students need in their current and future lives, and also provides students with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in:
- Numeracy and algebra
- Measurement and geometry
- Statistics and probability.
The curriculum focuses on developing increasingly sophisticated and refined mathematical understanding, fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. These proficiencies enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing mathematical strategies to make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently.
Junior Secondary
All students participate in the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics at their year level from year 7 to year 9. An overview of the curriculum, including topics and suggested assessment tasks, is available in the Junior Secondary Handbook.
Senior Secondary
In year 10 all students participate in the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics. An overview of the curriculum, including topics and suggested assessment tasks is available in the Year 10 Curriculum Handbook. In year 11 and year 12, our students are required to select a minimum of one from three Mathematics courses: General Mathematics, Mathematics Methods and Specialist Mathematics. Details of the prerequisites, topics and likely assessment can be found in the Senior Subject Selection Handbook.pdf.
