Corinda State High School offers a unique selection of agricultural learning opportunities for students who are passionate about discovering the world of sustainable agriculture.
With a fully operational Smart Farm led by our Agricultural Manager and assistant, Corinda can offer learning experiences that have not been previously available in schools. We are proud be able to give our students unique experiences to give them a head start towards their future careers.
Our Agricultural Science studies allows students to actively engage in their agricultural pursuits, including handling of many of our animals including cattle, chickens, goats, sheep, and alpacas. Our students are also given the opportunity to practice beekeeping and harvesting of honey. Our students have also planted a full market garden which they maintain and harvest. This produce is used by our Hospitality students and also sold to our school staff and community, with all funds being filtered directly back into our school farm projects.
Our Agricultural Science teaching team are well trained and highly-knowledgeable to give our students the best learning outcomes across a number of innovative programs and facilities, including:
- A Suffolk Sheep stud in operation since 1974
- Animal husbandry experience with cattle, goats and sheep
- The opportunity to care for baby animals; kids, lambs and calves
- Working with chickens, alpacas and other livestock
- A full beekeeping facility incorporating the latest technology where students can observe, study and harvest produce
- Access to hydroponics and aquaponics to allow students to experience the future of farming
- A working shearing shed and yards
- Over 70 head of cattle
- Access to the Oxley Creek Common for further care and experience with animals
As part of a 5-day camp, students have the opportunity to show sheep at the Royal Queensland Show (The Ekka). Corinda State High School has won the Tidy Pens competition at The Ekka in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Students are not only judged on the presentation of the sheep pens but also how they engage with the public. In 2024, Michelle Price, a member of the public, sent the school a touching note about their interaction with Year 9 student, Otto H who captivated her young family.
“He spoke to us for quite a while about the goats, and we asked him many questions about the school’s Ag program and why it was something he wanted to study. He was great with my nephews, helping them feed the animals. He was polite, very well spoken and informative, and I feel that he was a wonderful representative and role model for your school,” she said.
Our school has a partnership with the Oxley Creek Common which gives our Agriculture program room to grow beyond our fields. In addition to the Ekka experience, students attend an annual camp at the Oxley Creek Common which gives them the chance to fully immerse themselves and experience our wide range of agricultural science.

Murray Watt, Senator for Queensland, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and Minister for Energy Management and Federal Member for Moreton Graham Perrett MP visited Corinda on 4 November 2022 to learn about AgTech innovation at our Smart Farm.
