Science and Agriculture

 
​Our Agricultural Farm and Science Innovation Centre provides outstanding opportunities for students in agriculture and science.

Agriculture 

Our Agriculture curriculum provides an exciting mix of practical skills and theory, all underpinned by a technology-based, future-focused foundation. 

In studying Agriculture, students gain a deep understanding of the true complexities inherent to food and fibre production and appreciate why data gathering, analysis and application are fundamental to future sustainable growth. 

Through international partnerships, our students will also gain an understanding of the agricultural practices of our Asian neighbours and how Australia is in a prime position to feed a growing global population.

Science

Our Science curriculum aims to cultivate in students an eagerness to make meaning of the world around them by taking one or more of the following science subjects:
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth Science
  • Physics. 
Regardless of the science subject a student chooses, they will learn how to generate and analyse primary data to reach justified conclusions supported by reliable, peer-reviewed scientific theory. Students will also learn to identify critical information and distil the essence of complex and challenging real-world problems. Working with advanced laboratory and data logging technology, students will be able to make meaning of numerous abstract concepts frequently encountered in the journey to scientific enlightenment. 

No matter the year level, our students benefit from strong industry partnerships with CSIRO and Pepsico to provide authentic opportunities to experience how science is applied through multi-disciplinary collaboration. This engages and inspires our students to go beyond their text books and the internet and to exceed their expectations.

Junior Secondary

Junior science and Agricultural Sciences are integrated subjects studied by students from year 7 to year 9. 

Agricultural Technology is a semester elective in year 7–9 and covers a wide range of practical and theoretical concepts and skills underpinned by the Design and Technology Curriculum.

The three strands of the Science Curriculum Science Understanding, Science Inquiry Skills and Science as a Human Endeavour are interrelated and their content is taught in an integrated way. The Science as a Human Endeavour strand can provide relevant contexts in which science can be taught.

Seni​or Secondary

In senior years, all students have the opportunity to study nationally recognised vocational qualifications by completing a Certificate I in Agrifood Operations in Year 10 and Certificate II in Rural Operations in year 11 and 12. This course of study is made richer by our industry connections and the wealth of experience they bring to our school through their extensive connections in the horticultural and animal industries. 

Although Science remains a compulsory subject in year 10 to 12 students can further their skills by selecting Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science and Physics. We are one of the few schools that offers four senior science options.
